Summary of 2 Chronicles 30-31:
Chapter 30: Hezekiah sent word to all Israel and Judah; He also wrote letters to Ephraim and Manasseh, inviting them to come to the temple of the Lord in Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover to the Lord, the God of Israel.
The celebration was so full of joy and unity that the assembly decided to extend the seven-day feast for another seven days. There had never been such a great celebration in Jerusalem since the time of King Solomon.
Chapter 31: After the passover celebration, the people were so enthusiastic about worshiping God in the right way that they continued to purge the kingdom from all forms of idolatry. They restructured the priesthood, restoring the tithe; so much was given for the support of the priesthood that it was put into massive piles for four months! Hezekiah also appointed those who would distribute the tithe fairly to the members of the priesthood.
2 Chronicles 31:20-21
20 Thus Hezekiah did throughout all Judah, and he did what was good and right and faithful before the Lord his God. 21 And every work that he undertook in the service of the house of God and in accordance with the law and the commandments, seeking his God, he did with all his heart, and prospered.
Hopefully you will have time to read 2 Chronicles 30-31 in its entirety so you can see for yourself the lengths that Hezekiah and the people went to honor God and return to God’s ways. It is astounding that Hezekiah, as a young man, was able to encourage and lead in such a powerful way. God had equipped him with the gifts needed to lead a large number of people into purity, teaching them to worship with all their hearts. The Jewish people were so inspired that when Hezekiah instructed them in the tithe, they gave and gave until all the priests and Levite families were provided for (remember the Levites did not receive an inheritance like the other tribes because God was their inheritance (Numbers 18:20)).
Hezekiah continued to be a reminder of God’s great love for us and that we can never assume God has passed us over. Despite his father, Hezekiah loved God and probably recognized how far his father had strayed from the love of God and the truth. We all are called into His service and are equipped for what He calls us to, we only need to be obedient.
