ON YOUR MARK: WEEK 11 DAY 5

Mark 12:41-44

The Widow's Offering

41 And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. 42 And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. 43 And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. 44 For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”

Isn't it crazy how we can be in agreement with things, but not imitate them? I wholeheartedly agree with Jesus that the widow gave a greater gift, because she gave all she had. She was all in for Christ; all in on her FAITH. She gave so much that she would have to rely on Christ to provide for her daily needs because she had nothing left.

Giving of our “gifts” is not always about money. It can be about our attitude and devotion when it comes to serving God through our time, talents, and treasures. Yes, we are called to give of our finances, but we are also called to give of our time and talents. When was the last time you made room in your schedule to serve?  One of the devil’s tools is distraction. Are we prioritizing the things that have an eternal impact? Is God tugging at your heart to use a talent that He has blessed you with to further His kingdom?

Until we see the words of Scripture as being radical and revolutionary and choose to act, we have missed the emphasis of Christ's ministry. Romans 12:1 states: Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

Ask God to show you ways to use your time, talents, and treasures to grow the Kingdom of God. Then pray for a heart of surrender, and an attitude of gratefulness as we live out the love of Christ.
