Summer At Sea: Week 11 Day 6

Acts 5:12-16

12 The apostles performed many signs and wonders among the people. And all the believers used to meet together in Solomon’s Colonnade. 13 No one else dared join them, even though they were highly regarded by the people. 14 Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to their number. 15 As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by. 16 Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by impure spirits, and all of them were healed.

People who merely touched Jesus’ cloak were healed. Here we see in startling display of the “greater things” mentioned yesterday. For it was merely Peter’s shadow that brought healing. In fact the early apostles performed many miracles recorded in Acts, but let's not forget why this was happening. They weren’t making a name for themselves; they were sharing the good news about Jesus. The Holy Spirit saw fit to glorify the name of Jesus through these healings and miracles.

It is good that we want to do mighty things for our Lord. It is good that we believe that miracles are possible. Let us make sure, however, that we are keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus and seeking the miraculous as the Spirit leads for the glory of Jesus alone.
