Summer At Sea: Week 2 Day 3

Genesis 9:1-3

And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. 2 The fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth and upon every bird of the heavens, upon everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea. Into your hand they are delivered. 3 Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything.”

The passage above is called the dominion mandate, and it is one of my favorite recent discoveries in my Biblical journey. The dominion mandate calls for us to subdue the earth beneath our feet for God. God has given us everything. But why? Well, we serve an awesome God, who gives us roles to fulfill. Adam was a gardener, David a shepherd, and Jesus a carpenter and craftsman. God knows we all have roles to fulfill; He wants our lives not to be simple doldrums of nonstop boredom. God wants us to serve a purpose, glorifying Him in our work. Want to hunt and find your food? Amazing, do it for God’s glory. Want to clean up beaches and eat local cuisine? Awesome, do it for Him! God gives us a purpose so we may glorify Him, taking dominion over this world through His power and glory, not ours!

Colossians 3:23

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men...
