Summer At Sea: Week 2 Day 5

Genesis 9:7

“And you, be fruitful and multiply, increase greatly on the earth and multiply in it.”

Why did God want to fill the earth immediately after the flood? Do you make a bed for no one to sleep in, or prepare a spot at the table for no one to be? This is the completion of the dominion mandate. God wants His children to fill the earth. This is why He commanded Noah, whom, according to Scripture, was “...a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God” (Genesis 6:9).

This parallels how we are remade in Christ: “Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God” (Romans 5:9).

Another word for righteous is justified; we are made right before God. Therefore, we are to go fill the earth. Whether it is by having or adopting children that we then raise to know God, or helping others become believers through evangelizing, we must go and finish our mandate to subdue the earth for the sake of glorifying God.
