The Un-Series: Week 3 Day 6

Mark 8:36 (ESV)

36 For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?

As I write this, there is a weather system moving through our area and intense wind has picked up outside. Right now, I can hear the strength and power of the wind gusts, but not truly feel the effects of it as I sit in the comfort and protection of my living room. I sometimes wonder if the same sort of thing happens in our own lives?

Everywhere we turn, we are met with the false narrative that we need more - more money, more clothes, better vehicles, big vacations, the latest and the greatest.  Possessions, security, and safety can become what we work toward, blinding us from what truly matters in life. 

How often do we sit in the comfort and protection of all we have acquired without feeling the effects of what it does to our soul? Have we padded our lives with so much convenience, ease, and self-sufficiency that we miss our desperate need for God?  Are we striving towards gaining the whole world (Mark 8:36) at the expense of our souls?

God cares deeply for you, but isn’t interested in your comforts, possessions, or security; God is interested in your soul. God desires a relationship with you that is completely dependent on Him and not on the world.
