The Un-Series: Week 6 Day 3
Jeremiah 15:4(ESV)
4 And I will make them a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth because of what Manasseh the son of Hezekiah, king of Judah, did in Jerusalem.
The definition of abhorrent is: inspiring disgust and loathing; repugnant. From the Hebrew word זַעֲוָה (zaʿăvâ) the meaning of abhorrent is defined as: a horror, trembling, object of terror or trembling.
Have you ever seen someone being made an example of? Maybe you were an athlete, and someone was ignoring the coach, resulting in them having to do an unbearable amount of burpees. Maybe you saw someone get fired at work for something that was wrong, but everyone did anyway.
When God said this to Jeremiah, He said that what happens to Israel would cause the kingdoms of the earth to recoil in horror. Understanding why God said this is so crucial. Manasseh did so many evils, and God was seething with anger. This man had desecrated God’s Temple, God’s image bearers, and His nation. Because of this, God would pour out His wrath. God is a patient and loving God, but we must understand that in His love He must stop evil if it grows too much. God’s judgment came, and Manasseh faced it.
