ON YOUR MARK: WEEK 3 DAY 5
Mark 3:28-30
28 “Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the children of man, and whatever blasphemies they utter, 29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin”— 30 for they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.”
In yesterday’s devotion we read that some people were claiming that Jesus was driving out demons by demonic power. Jesus’ response to them is in today’s Scripture above.
Jesus had authority to drive out demons by the power of the Holy Spirit. By attributing the power to something evil, they were blaspheming the Holy Spirit. The Pharisees knew the Scriptures, they knew the prophecy about Jesus, and they knew that Jesus was performing good miracles by the power of the Holy Spirit, yet their hearts were hardened with pride. They were blinded by their jealousy and their expectations of the Messiah, and so in front of the people they attributed His power to Satan, blaspheming the Holy Spirit.
Many Christians have heard of the “unpardonable sin" and been gripped with fear that they have committed it. Someone whose heart is hard enough to know who Jesus is, yet ascribe His miracles to Satan, would not be worried that they had committed a sin against Him. As far as all other sins go, there is nothing that God will not forgive.
Satan would love to deceive you into thinking you are unforgivable; that is not true. Read these scriptures for encouragement:
James 4:8
Romans 5:20
1 Timothy 1:12-17
Hebrews 7:25
Isaiah 12:2
