ON YOUR MARK: WEEK 4 DAY 2

Mark 4:5-6

5 Other seed fell on rocky ground, where it did not have much soil, and immediately it sprang up, since it had no depth of soil. 6 And when the sun rose, it was scorched, and since it had no root, it withered away.

Mark 4:16-17

16 And these are the ones sown on rocky ground: the ones who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy. 17 And they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away.

This summer, my wife and I had to remove a bush from our new yard. After weeks of several failing attempts, we used a truck to move it. The bush took several tugs, a broken strap, and a truck being pulled backward to come out. The roots on this bush went deep. The root system was so big we spent the following weeks chopping them away in our front yard. That same day we pulled the stump, we pulled out some weeds. The weeds took us maybe five minutes to clear them all. We put the weeds in a bag and called it done.

Deep roots keep us strong. Our faith and the faith we should lead others to should be based on what is true, not our emotional state or ideas. God is the truth, emotions are a rocky soil.

Here are the first two steps in helping to make sure the hearts of those who hear God’s Word are prepared:

  1. Pray for heart(s) to be prepared.

  2. Pray for God’s truth to be revealed!
