ON YOUR MARK: WEEK 12 DAY 3
Mark 14:27 – 31
27 And Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away, for it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’ 28 But after I am raised up, I will go before you to Galilee.”29 Peter said to him, “Even though they all fall away, I will not.” 30 And Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” 31 But he said emphatically, “If I must die with you, I will not deny you.” And they all said the same.
Have you ever misplaced something only to realize later that it was in plain sight? I have! I have asked where my keys are when they are sitting on the counter where I left them. I recently almost asked where my phone was when it was in my hand. It’s crazy how we miss things that are right in front of us!
This was what was happening with the disciples and Jesus in today’s reading. In this moment that was filled with pressure and intensity, Jesus made a statement that should have whipped every disciple’s head around: “But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee” (Mark 14:28). This statement from Jesus was a ray of hope in the darkness they were living in. Things were going to get bad, really bad, but it wasn’t going to be permanent. Jesus declared that He would rise again and meet them in Galilee (Mark 14:28).
Jesus was able to walk through torture in obedience to God because He trusted in His Father. He knew what the outcome would be. Jesus wanted his disciple to keep their eyes on the promise, and not get swept up in the difficult circumstance that were coming.
How about you? Are you struggling to keep your eyes on the promises of God and not on your current circumstance? Obey your heavenly Father in the middle of the trial, and trust that He will bring about His victory.
