JUDE: WEEK 1 DAY 4

Jude 1:7

7 just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.

In Genesis 19, you can read the account of Sodom and Gomorrah. The cities had become so wicked and sexually immoral that God was going to destroy them. Even as Angels were sent to rescue Abraham’s nephew, Lot, the city showed its true colors. The men of the city beat on the doors of Lot’s house, demanding to sexually assault the visitors. The Angels escaped with Lot and his family.

Can you believe Jude was comparing the behavior of the ungodly agents in the church to the people of Sodom and Gomorrah? There must have been some serious problems going on. How had it gotten so out of hand? Maybe the people in the church were like Lot, little by little, they had learned to live with it.

What about us? Have we allowed wickedness to slip into our homes, friendships, or even our church because it came in small doses? Have we turned a blind eye to things that don’t belong? Have we gotten used to things in our entertainment that grieve the heart of God?

Invite the Holy Spirit to examine your heart today. If there is anything that has slipped in, ask God for forgiveness and turn away from that sin.
