JUDE: WEEK 1 DAY 6
John 14:15
15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
I was not a perfect child by any means, but I did tend to obey my parents. It was not because I was afraid of them, or because I wanted something from them; I obeyed because I trusted them, and I loved them. Now, in a total 180, I find myself obeying my adulting children when they entrust me with my grandchildren. I listen to their instructions not so they won’t get mad at me, but because I love and trust them and know that they have their child's best interest in mind.
Jesus gave us freedom from sin, and the power to obey God. When we live this way, we show our love for Jesus. This relationship between obedience and love is vital. If you have only ever obeyed (your parents, your boss, your teachers) out of fear, or you have only obeyed (while they were watching) for approval, that is living out of instinct. Obedience must come from love.
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you with two things:
To understand what true obedience is.
To give you the power to grasp how wide and long and high and deep that is the love of Christ.
