Spoken With Love: Week 5 Day 3
Genesis 22:1-3
Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!”
“Here I am,” he replied.
2 Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”
3 Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about.
So let’s recognize a few things about God quickly:
God DETESTS human sacrifice (Deuteronomy 12:31).
God is a completely loving God who cares deeply for His children (John 3:16).
God never breaks His promises / covenants (Hebrews 6).
So why would God ever want to ask for the HUMAN SACRIFICE of someone who He made a COVENANT with and LOVED DEEPLY? Well, the important thing to understand is Abraham didn’t have the Bible to read and know these things, but he did have faith in the God he served. God made a promise that He would give Abraham a lineage through Isaac. So that’s why, as we read in Genesis 22:3 today, Abraham gets up and goes to do what the Lord has asked.
So let’s come back to that question that was asked earlier this week. Can you look at your faith and say you would do the same? Would you leave that morning, like Abraham did, trusting in the plan of God?
