Spoken With Love: Week 5 Day 4
Proverbs 9:10
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
Matthew 10:28
Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
The “fear of God” is a concept that has been taken by culture and twisted. You see it on a lot of clothing and bumper stickers, but rarely do we actually see it lived out. The concept of fearing the Lord actually means we are completely obedient to God because we fear and love Him more than we fear and love people. God fearing people often choose the unpopular path because our sinful world hates holiness. God, however, loves holiness. Abraham, in Genesis 22, chose to be obedient to God, not because the choice was fun and easy, but because God said so, and Abraham feared God more than man.
Can you say the same?
