Spoken With Love: Week 5 Day 5

Genesis 22:6-8

Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together, 7 Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?”

“Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.

“The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”

8 Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together.

This is heavy Scripture to read emotionally. You can feel the tension and dread. What you see, however, is simple: A man is instructed by God to do something he can barely fathom and goes forward in obedience. Abraham believed that God would provide a lamb, but he behaved as though Isaac’s fate had been written.

What if our faith looked like that? What if when God tells us to do something, we act as though it is already done? Our hearts would change and we would be able to see the world God has made.

Matthew 17:20

[Jesus] replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Abraham’s faith was in the character of God, so he followed God’s exact words; may we be so bold and do the same.
