Spoken With Love: Week 1 Day 6
Matthew 18:15-17
15 “If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. 16 But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ 17 If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.
Yesterday we looked at Saul and David, and today we are going to look at Samuel and Nathan. Samuel and Nathan were prophets of the Most High God and lived lives fully serving Him. They were indwelled with God’s Holy Spirit to speak His Word; they called out brothers and sisters for their good.
As Christians, we too are indwelled with the Holy Spirit of God, and are a royal priesthood to one another. As Christians, when we sin, we are to repent and turn away from that sin, in order to become more like Jesus; this process is known as sanctification. The Scripture we just read is an encouragement to everyone in the church body. When a brother or sister corrects you or you correct them, read Scripture together and test everything against the Spirit of God, but do it RESPECTFULLY. Have small meetings, and do not move forward until there is reconciliation.
Jesus tells us, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God” (Matthew 5:9).
You and your fellow believers are one church, one people, under Christ. Like Samuel and Nathan, the love and directions we give need to be in the Spirit of God; that is the only way.
