Spoken With Love: Week 3 Day 5
Job 42:5 – 6
My ears had heard of you
but now my eyes have seen you.
6 Therefore I despise myself
and repent in dust and ashes.”
Have you ever been in an argument and, at a specific point in the argument, realized you were wrong? I have, too many times, usually with my wife! How do you respond? Typically, instead of admitting I’m wrong, I continue arguing in prideful stupidity.
After God took Job on a whirlwind tour of creation, revealing to Job that God is God and Job is not, Job realized that all of his defensiveness, questions, and arguments had all been wrong when standing in the presence of God. Job’s response to this realization was both beautiful and instructive: renounce and repent (Job 42:5-6).
Job humbly responded to God by renouncing (or rejecting) all that he previously said because he realized he was wrong and he acted on that awareness by repenting (or turning back toward truth) and putting voice and action to that realization.
Next time you recognize you are wrong, remember Job before God; follow his example by renouncing and repenting, and then watch how your circumstances and life transform!
