Summer At Sea: Week 7 Day 4
Jonah 1: 10
This terrified them and they asked, “What have you done?” (They knew he was running away from the Lord, because he had already told them so.)
What do you fear most? Spiders? Snakes? Heights? When we think of our worst fears, we can feel very terrified. However, do we ever fear God? I know that there are times when I do, but other times I should and don’t. We should be able to have a healthy fear of God and fear of not following Him, just as a child can fear their parents.
Although these Gentiles were not followers of God to begin with, they knew His power from the storm. They knew His power so much that they were not only scared, but terrified to learn that Jonah had disobeyed Him. Their fear soon turns to faithfulness.
Your fear could be anything: not being liked, being alone, or failing. We should have a healthy fear of the Lord so that we are motivated enough to honor Him in all that we do. We should fear the Lord more than fearing not being liked. We should fear Him more than our phobias.
