Being minimized hurts.  When this happens to us, it is hard to not be either defensive and angry, or feel sorry for ourselves and eventually agree with what others say.

Have you ever been obedient or followed the rules only to be met with scrutiny and confusion?  If so, how did you react? In school, I was very much a rule follower and strived to make good grades, and because of this I was called “miss goody two shoes” or “teacher’s pet.” To this name calling I reacted in anger and hurt. 

What a bully! That’s what comes to my mind when I think about Goliath as he taunted the Israelites, marching around like the ancient day Hulk, and yelling for someone to fight.

I tend to have a little bit of a competitive nature, which can lead me down a path of comparison. I compare my abilities and gifts against others’ and wish I could be as gifted as them.  This is especially true in serving.

Have you ever known someone who could be a bit difficult, but because you know their history, you are able to extend more grace to them than others do?  Knowing details about someone allows you to see more of their heart and gives you a better understanding about them. I’m so thankful that this is what our God does.
